McQueen Rescues Cat Shelter is a legally registered non-profit organization & solemnly depends on donations. We do not receive any government assistance. So any support is appreciated. Aside from financial donations… food, medical supplies, beds, cages, volunteering etc. is also appreciated.
Sterilising
If you can't adopt a cat but want to help, please sterilise the cat. Approximate costs male less than 50 euros & females less than 80 euros. Sterilising a cat doubles the life expectancy, prevents unwanted kittens, stops the spread of viruses & stops fights that often result in serious injuries.
You can buy a carrier at a pet store or borrow a automatic cat trap from McQueen Rescues to catch & transport the cat. You can organise for a sterilisation yourself at a vet near you or contact us to help you set up an appointment. Local taxis allow cats or you can hire PetTaxi who can assist with catching/provide a carrier (+30 698 744 5010).
This is the difference that sterilising a cat can do.
Volunteer as a Flightbuddy
If you are on vacation you can volunteer in Facebook groups or for McQueen Rescues to bring an animal to it's forever home. No extra costs to you & you can assist in giving a pet it's happy ending!
You can search for flightbuddy groups on Facebook or feel free to ask the names from us.
Animal Cruelty
If you witness animal cruelty call this number 10410 do NOT settle for an email. Ask them to meet you at the location or dispatch an officer to the location immediately!
Dumped Kitten
If you find dumped kittens you can buy GOAT MILK, warm it up & feed it by syringe until help is found. Add a drop of honey to goat milk if possible to stabilise the kittens sugar level.
Emergency back up feeding method : cut a tiny hole into the edge of a plastic bag & pour drops into kittens mouth (think of a piping bag).
Injured Animal
If you find a injured animal go to the nearest pet store to buy a carrier & take the animal to the nearest vet. Local taxis allow pets or you can hire PetTaxi who can assist with catching/provide a carrier (+30 698 744 5010). Vets are very inexpensive in Crete!

Abandoned Kitten
If you find a kitten that is near a populated area please do not just take it. Give it water & food & observe for severals hours or ideally over night to make sure the Mom isn't around (Mom Cats often leave for 6+ hrs to go find food). If you are under time pressure play the video below to see if a Mom cat will appear.
